Tour overview
The Poon Hill Trek is a popular route for beginners and other Annapurna region trekkers. The highlight is reaching Poon Hill’s summit before sunrise and seeing panoramic views of the famous Annapurna region, including Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Annapurna South, Annapurna II, III, Annapurna I and IV, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, and Machhapuchhare. The Ghorepani Poon trek is possibly the ideal short Himalayan trek! This journey takes you straight into the heart of the Annapurnas and may be done in 4 or 5 days. Poon Hill (3,210m) provides the best view of the Annapurna range.
Hiking up to Poon Hill to observe the sunrise over these magnificent snow-covered mountains is a memorable experience. This walk also includes hiking through vibrant villages and forests, with the Annapurna range as a steady backdrop. Even experienced trekkers will enjoy this introduction to the Himalayas, especially if time is limited. The lodging along this well-traveled route is very comfortable, and the meals are not disappointing.
Ghorepani is a village in the Khumbu Region with an elevation of around 2874 meters (9429 feet) within the Annapurna Conservation Area. The track passes through rhododendron forest, terraced hills, paddy fields, and lush vegetation, leaving trekkers with a strong feeling of the region. The welcoming atmosphere of the local Gurung and Magar communities is equally remarkable. This walk is also famous for its other name, the Annapurna Sunrise Trek, and it includes the favorite Ulleri challenge, which consists of over 3000 stone steps to up. There is also the natural hot springs pool at Jhinu to relax after a day of hiking or time spent in Pokhara’s colorful and energetic town, which is only five hours by road from Kathmandu.
The most common and preferable route is to begin in Nayapul and end in Ghandruk (we walked this way as most trekkers do). The route’s total ascent will be 3000 meters, while its total descent will be 1996 meters. You have an alternative way, starting in Ghandruk and ending in Nayapul. As the graph shows, this route has less elevation and more descent than the Nayapul-Ghandruk alternative, approximately 2000 m up and 3000 m down. Both settlements allow booking jeeps and buses to take you to Pokhara. But in other cases, such as unpredictable weather(rainy), the road from Ghandruk becomes quite slippery and muddy, and there may be no buses from there to Pokhara. You can hike to Kimche from Ghandruk (4 km more and 300 m lower) or to Kande through Australian Camp (plus 16 km and quite a lot of up and down extra).

after enjoying the lovely view of Poonhill we take breakfast and start our trekking to Tadapani.
The path out of Tadapani is primarily downhill. The trail snaked deeper into the forest, taking us over streams and pebbles strewn everywhere. We were moving quickly, but we could see black clouds accumulating, indicating that rain was on its approach. We tried to step up the pace and get to Ghandruk as soon as we could after hearing thunder.
As the road between Ghandruk and pokhara is rough and not well managed so the drive will take around 3 hours to reach Pokhara from Ghandruk.
